Preview of "Speechless"

Here is a brief preview of my romance novel "Speechless"
Speechless is similar to "Romeo and Juliet" but with a fantasy twist; if you like Dragon slayers, evil trolls, lovely fairies and romance, then Speechless is the book for you!

Enjoy chapter one:

Elvberry was a lot like most of the countries you read about in fairytales, sunny, bright, gleeful and merry; it was known for its signature landmarks such as the ‘The Great Willow’ a 900 year old Willow tree that was centered in the middle of a park that was named ‘Willow Park’ and ‘The Fountain of Dreams’, a large fountain that was a beautiful part of Elvberry and then of course there was ‘The Love Wall’ a long brick wall where couples would come and inscribe their names or initials; it seemed that if you moved to Elvberry you wouldn’t have a single care in the world… it seemed that way, but the truth was, there were things that were rather off-putting about Elvberry; for example The Kensingtons and The Williamsburgs; these two families both had good standings with King Prichard, but they had a strong hate for one another… you see, the reason for this is because years ago a young woman by the name of Ethel Williamsburg married Edward Kensington, soon after their marriage, Ethel grew very ill and passed away; believing that she was murdered with poison by Edward, Darian Williamsburg, her father, killed him and ever since then Williamsburgs and Kensingtons have despised each other to the point where they couldn’t even cross each other’s path with wreaking havoc in the streets. The leaders of the Williamsburg family were Lord Holland and Lady Mary and the leaders of the Kensingtons were Lord Victor and Lady Eden.
The other problem with Elvberry was the Dragon; now, many of the Elvberrians did not fully believe that the dragon existed, but they still respected the thought and stayed off the streets of the country on the night called Hallow’s Eve; it was said that the Dragon roamed around the sky on that night, preying on the people of the country; eventually people started to want to leave Elvberry, they felt unsafe and terrified, so in the year 1780, the king came up with an idea: he would see all the families of Elvberry and choose one of the young men to slay the Dragon when he came of age; most of the families did not like this idea but they still obeyed King Prichard’s command and presented their young men to him.
When the time came for choosing all the families stood before the king with their heads held high although in all honesty they all hoped that their children would not get picked; King Prichard looked at all the young men, he looked down at one of them and the child’s mother’s heart started to race “what is your name young man?” Prichard asked “Derrick” the boy replied “how old are you Derrick?” “Eleven and a half, and I’m going to be the greatest warrior in all of Elvberry, so choosing me to slay the dragon would be doing a whole lot of good for the country” the boy proudly said; his mother looked down at him in pure embarrassment but his father smiled proudly; King Prichard just bowed and walked down the line; he then noticed one little boy not paying any attention to what was going on— the little boy smiled and waved to a little girl who was sitting in the audience and his mother, Angelica smacked him upside the head “pay attention!” she snapped “yes Mother” he sheepishly replied as he lowered his head; King Prichard smiled and walked over to him “what’s your name?” Prichard asked him “Michael” he replied with his head lowered “raise your head boy!” Michael’s father, Vincent snapped “sorry Father” Michael quickly apologized and raised his head “apologize to his highness” Vincent ordered “I’m sorry your Highness” Michael said “don’t be sorry young man” Prichard said with a smile; he looked over at the girl Michael was waving at and noticed that she was from the Williamsburg family— he looked back at Michael “are you a Kensington?” he asked “yes, sir” he replied “your highness” Vincent commanded “yes, your highness” Michael said “sir, your highness, it’s all the same young man; how old are you?” Prichard inquired “ten” “ten” Prichard quietly repeated “do you think you can slay a Dragon, Michael?” “Me? A dragon? No your highness, I’d never be able to do such a thing, maybe my brothers” he replied; Vincent rolled his eyes in embarrassment and gave Michael a little nudge “he’s right! We’d love to slay the Dragon!” Onesimus exclaimed “we could kill it in less than a minute your Highness!” Jonathan excitedly said; Onesimus and Jonathan were Michael’s older brothers, they were 13 year old twins and they were much different from Michael; they were loud, brash, and a bit conceited, while Michael was quiet, shy and rather humble; he lowered his head in shame of how he wasn’t like Onesimus and Jonathan “settle down boys” Prichard told them, he then lifted Michael’s head “keep your head up young man, you can’t see how bright your future is if it’s always down” he told him with a smile.
